It is easy to think about a table as furniture. Yet it might not be as easy; in fact quite difficult to arrive at a wholesome definition for a table. Be it its structure or the purpose that it has been used for.

Wood table, round tables, square tables, rectangle tops, glass tops, table stands made from tree branches, cane tables and the list can go on endlessly.

Talking about its list of purposes is even tougher and more varied. It has been used to sign treaties between warring nations or to serve a humble meal within a family.

There are tables in restaurants and there are tables in classrooms. Coffee tables, tables meant to display decorative, study tables, computer tables and list can perhaps go on endlessly.

Wood as the basic material for making tables far surpasses any other material.

Traditionally wood tables were bulky, huge and had curved feet. Modern wood tables are more sleek and utilitarian.

This symptom can be attributed as a consequence of shortage of wood due to various factors, v.i.z., environmental concerns, green house emissions and several laws banning the felling of trees in many parts of the world.

This shortage of wood and distinct difference in styling between traditional wood table and new slim and trim tables has led to several indirect consequences in the market dealing with wood tables.

The most visible sign is the craze for antique wood tables and the ever increasing number of online stores selling antique wood tables and reproduced antique tables.

Of course wood per se has also been revived as a popular choice as a material for building furniture and architectural structures like window blinds, wood floorings etc.
